LAFAYETTE - After 96 1/2 years of a well-lived, beautiful life, Dorothy Jane Compton (Dottie Jane "Mimi") rested from her mortal journey to embrace eternal peace and love with her beloved husband. As a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and school teacher, she touched countless lives with her kindness, compassion, joy, and impish humor. Once asked by her high school algebra teacher what grade she thought she deserved, she laid ground work for a new grading system in her future profession by responding: "A-minus question mark." Dottie Jane is survived by all of the family, friends and students who had tremendous fortune to know and truly love her. To all of us, she was an A-plus. No question mark attached. A celebration of life service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, at the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church in Mitchell, with a fellowship meal to follow the service. A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. in Mitchell Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church, Mitchell, IN, Memorial Garden Fund; to the Sunshine Ministries of Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, South Bend, Indiana; or to your favorite charitable organization. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.chastainfuneralhome.com.
