Eddie James Smith Oct. 19, 1929 - March 25, 2014 ELKHART - Mr. Eddie James Smith of Cleveland Avenue, Elkhart, Indiana, departed this life on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Mr. Smith was born on October 19, 1929, to Magnolia Dorsey and Roosevelt Bowen in Dobbsville, Mississippi. He married Versie L. Jeter in 1956. He was a Navy veteran, where he served two tours of duty. Mrs. Smith survives along with 3 sons: Jimmie Carl Smith of Memphis, Tennessee, Monroe Smith of Elkhart and Nicky Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two daughters: Eddie Jean Smith of Elkhart and Diana Cato of Houston, Texas; 5 brothers: Willie Lewis, Roosevelt, Jr., Clevelt and Terry, all of Compton, California, and Willie James of Lancaster, Texas; and 5 sisters: Isabella, Carrie, Alberta, Christina and Marsha, all of Compton, California; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith's parents, three siblings, and two children preceded him in death. Services for Mr. Smith will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 12:00 noon with an hour prior visitation at Unique Outreach Ministries COGIC at 2649 Morton Avenue, Elkhart, Indiana 46517.
