SOUTH BEND - Floyd J. Hans, 84, passed away Thursday, October 17th, at 7:45 am after an extended battle against cancer with family at his bedside. Floyd was born on November 22, 1928, in South Bend, IN, to the late Joseph and Thelma (King) Hans. Mr. Hans was a broker in the trucking industry having owned several trucks; he retired from Reed Construction Company. He also worked for Walsh & Kelly Construction Company and Reith & Riley Construction Company. Floyd is survived by his friend and caregiver, Deloris Kanzig of South Bend, and her family; two sisters, Jean (Eugene) Lonzo of South Bend, Diana Hans of South Bend; four brothers, Robert L. (Barbara) Hans of Mishawaka, Larry (Jane) Hans of Wisconsin, Jerry (Sharon) Hans of South Bend, Dale (JoAn) Hans of South Bend; four nieces, five nephews, 2 great-nieces and eight great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Russell Hans, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Hans. Floyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army on the front lines of combat during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid animal lover and also enjoyed gardening, garage sales and antique cars. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no can steal. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 21st, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/State Road 23, South Bend. Services will follow at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Ervin Mize officiating. Burial will take place at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Dr., South Bend, IN 46614; or The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
