PORTAGE - Frederick James Hahn, age 88, a former resident of Portage, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis. He was born February 5, 1924 in Mishawaka to Edward F. & Minnie (Schalliol) Hahn. Fredrick graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1942. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps before earning his Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University, Bloomington. On August 31, 1946 in Mishawaka, he married the former Joyce Henigsmith; she survives. After his family, Frederick's greatest love was flying. Surviving with his wife of 66 years, Joyce, are their children: Rebecca (Jerry Sr.) Schley of Dowagiac, Michigan, Gary (Deborah) Hahn of Saline, Michigan, Beth (John) Martz of Big Rapids, Michigan and Gregory Hahn of Shelby Township, Michigan. Also surviving are grandchildren: Jerry (Karla) Schley, Jr., Gregory Schley, Marla (David) Poytinger, Andrea Hahn, Caleb (Ashley) Martz, Erick (Stephanie) Hahn & Dana Hahn, and 5 great-grandchildren. His brother, Maurice (Bobbie) Hahn of Niles; sisters, Erma Jane Willman of Crown Point, Indiana & Frances (Rev. Charles) Francis of Franklin, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Mary Hahn of Kalamazoo also survive. He was preceded in death by brother Norman Hahn and infant sister Virginia. Funeral services for Frederick James Hahn will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Charles Francis officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, Indiana. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. on Thursday until time of service, at the funeral home.
