George Herman Flake Oct. 10, 1922 - July 5, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Mr. George Herman Flake, 91, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his home. Mr. Flake was born in Columbus, GA, October 10, 1922, to George Daniel and Ruby Mills Flake. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a Navigator. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Georgia Tech and Master's Degrees from Notre Dame and Michigan State University. He was an Elder and member of the church choir at First Presbyterian Church in South Bend, IN, and was a Boy Scout Troop Leader. Mr. Flake was employed by Bendix/Allied Signal for 35 years as a mechanical engineer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Elaine Flake, a daughter, Caron Wonisch, and a sister, Laverne Perez. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Richard Banasiewicz of Winston-Salem; his son, George Daniel Flake of Elkhart, IN; three grandchildren, Gaetano Stanisci, Benjamin Banasiewicz and Jacob Banasiewicz; two brothers, David Flake of Columbus, GA, and Linwell Flake of Merritt Island, FL; a son-in-law, Ernie Wonisch; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46601.
