SOUTH BEND - Jerry J. O'Brien, 66, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013, in Memorial Hospital. Jerry was born on September 22, 1947, to the late John and Margaret (Sullivan) O'Brien in Chicago, IL. On October 11, 1996, he was married to Rose (Tinder) O'Brien, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Daphne Tinder-O'Brien of South Bend, IN, Joshua O'Brien of Oregon, Olivia Tinder of Ft Wayne, IN, Melissa, and 2 grandchildren. Jerry was a graduate from the University of Notre Dame, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in ancient studies. Jerry worked as a machinist. He loved to go with his family and take walks on the beach in New Buffalo and eating ice cream after their walk. Jerry and Rose also enjoyed walking along the St. Joseph River with their dog, which on their last walk they saw a bald eagle. Jerry was an avid bird watcher. Jerry was a loving, wonderful father and husband. He has left a void in life to all those who knew him. A gathering and memorial service will be held at the St. Patrick's County Park in the brown barn on Sunday, November 10th. The memorial service will begin at 1:00 pm with the family officiating; the service will be open to friends who will also have the opportunity to speak. Following the service, friends may gather and are invited for a pot luck dinner until 5 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for Daphne's Education Fund which the family is currently in the process of setting up though a local bank. Bubb Funeral Chapel assisted the family with the arrangements.
