SOUTH BEND - James A. Ewing Sr., 80, was born to the union of James and Anna Ewing on June 6, 1932, in South Bend, Indiana. He went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2013, in Pueblo, Colorado. Survived by his loving wife, Henrietta Anne (Barnhart) Ewing; children, Cheryl A. (Leonard) Ewing-Jobe of South Bend, IN, Mary A. (Bill) Grove of Granger, IN, Scott A. Ewing and Rick A. (Roberta) Ewing of Pueblo West, CO; ten grandchildren & eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Haney and Helen Lovette of South Bend, IN, Geraldine Struever of Edwardsburg, MI, and Lorraine Kelly of San Diego, CA; and brother, Robert Ewing of Naples, FL. Preceded in death by son, James Jr., grandson, Scott Michael, parents, four sisters and one brother. James attended South Bend Central and graduated high school at the age of 16. He served in the U.S. Army as a Medic during the Korean War, retired from Bendix Corporation and was Owner and Territory Operator of numerous Dairy Queens from 1973-2012. He was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Pueblo West, and involved in the Knights of Columbus and Squires. He was a Die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and Bears and Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He coached youth sports for over 25 years, including eight years from 1964-1971 at Holy Cross School in South Bend, winning 3 ICCL Championships and two Runnerups. Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 pm, with a Rosary Service at 6 pm. in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S Mayflower Road. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2013, in the funeral home. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church,
and Sange De Cristo Hospice House of Pueblo, CO. Online condolences at www.sjfh.net.
