May 16, 1940 - Nov. 29, 2013 MISHAWAKA - James John Hanchar Sr., 73, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013, at his residence. James was born on May 16, 1940, in Chisholm, MN, to the late Very Rev. Fr. John Roman and Matushka Nettie Hanchar. On January 14, 1989, James married Jean Jones in Mishawaka. James and Jean were married for 24 years and 10 months. James was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgina (Lisensko) Morse, on November 5, 2008; one child, Jennifer Lynn Hanchar on July 27, 1975; brother-in-law, George Palsce; sister-in-law, Peggy Jean Hanchar; and brother-in-law, Frank Peterson. Surviving are wife, Jean (Jones) Hanchar; and three children, James John (Rhonda) Hanchar Jr. of Granger, IN, Deborah Marie (Dan) Floyd of Boynton Beach, FL, and David Alexander (Gail) Hanchar of South Bend, IN. He was grandfather to eight grandchildren, Christopher (Angela) Kimes of Buchanan, MI, James Kimes of Elkhart, IN, Stephanie (Chris) Ledoux of Mishawaka, IN, Miranda Hanchar of Granger, IN, Brittany and Robert Floyd of Boynton Beach, FL, Alexander and Kenneth Hanchar of South Bend, IN; and great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren, Ian, Carmine and Gavin Ledoux of Mishawaka, IN, James John and Kayla Kimes, both from Elkhart, IN, and McKinzie Rose Kimes of Big Rapids, MI. Surviving also are six siblings, Stephen J. (Peggy) Hanchar of Delton, MI, Catherine Palsce of Osceola, IN, Dorothy Peterson of Portage, IN, Mary (Randy) Murphy of Mishawaka, IN, Anna (David) Ledney of Gaithersburg, MD, and Alexander (Linda) Hanchar of Portage, MI. James graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1959. James served his country in the United States Army Reserves, receiving an honorable discharge on July 31, 1969. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #360. He retired from Uniroyal Corporation as a laborer after 31 years of service. He was a parishioner of the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, and served as the President of Holy Orthodox Catholic Apostolic Church of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mishawaka, IN. He had a lifelong passion for gardening, coin collecting, and watching the old TV shows. The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm Monday, with a wake service starting at 7:00 pm, December 9, 2013, at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, December 10, 2013, with Rev. Fr. John Schmidt, Rev. Fr. Sasa Nedic and Rev. Fr. Hieromonk Timothy Tadros officiating at the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, 59262 Keria Trail, South Bend, IN. Burial will follow the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, IN.
