Jerry L. Cage March 11, 1949 - June 8, 2014 GRANGER - Jerry L. Cage, 65, passed away with family by his side on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Born March 11, 1949, he was the son of the late Donald E. Cage and Marie L. (Frank) Cage. Jerry is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Marilyn (Stolarz) Cage; their two daughters, Julia (Victor) Racster of Emmitsburg, MD, and Lisa (Steven Koppitsch) Cage of Perrysburg, OH; and two grandchildren, Lola and Jack Koppitsch. He is also survived by his sister, June M. Huitt, of Chicago, IL. Jerry's grandchildren were the light of his life and he cherished his role as grandfather. He also loved playing the guitar music was an integral part of his life. Jerry will be greatly missed by many. Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Thornton High School in Harvey, IL. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1971 from the University of Illinois Chicago, and his MBA from Indiana University. He taught at Ivy Tech Community College South Bend, and was the Program Chair of Advanced Automation and Robotics. His engineering career included time at Allied Signal and Easy Heat. Along with receiving five U.S. Patents, he published a number of papers and contributed a chapter to a book on anti-lock braking systems. Friends and family may visit from 4-8 PM Eastern on Friday, June 13th, at the McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road). There will be a graveside service at 11 AM Eastern (10 AM Central) on Saturday, June 14th, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Jerry Cage Memorial Scholarship for Advanced Automation and Robotics at Ivy Tech Community College.
