Dr. John Scott Harding Sept. 27, 1938 - July 23, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Dr. John Scott Harding, 75, residing in South Bend, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born September 27, 1938 in Valparaiso, IN, a son of John E. & Alberta Rae (Muster) Harding, and has lived in South Bend for the past forty-four years. John was a graduate of Harvard University, Northwestern University Medical School, and the Air Force Aero-Space Medicine School and completed his radiology training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He had also lived in Massachusetts, Illinois, and Arizona before returning to this area. On June 15, 1957 in Valparaiso, IN, he was united in marriage to his best friend and loving wife of 57 years, Antonia R. "Toni" DeGrazia. Also surviving is a daughter, Kathleen J. (Daniel) Swacina of Fayetteville, GA; two sons, Scott A. Harding of Warrenville, IL and Jeffrey B. (Tamara) Harding of Spencerville, IN. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren, Virginia (Justin) White, Amber (John) Chamberlain, Blair, Alexandra, Anthony, and Natalie Harding; two great-grandchildren, Rachel White and Dominic Chamberlain, as well as his brother, Robert B. (Susan) Harding of Arlington, VA. Dr. Harding was a Physician and Radiologist with XRay Consultants and St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for 31 years before retiring in 2001. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force in Vietnam, was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral, and South Bend Country Club. Golf was his passion, and he also enjoyed painting with water colors. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading physics books, loved watching football, and was a Notre Dame and Bears, as well as a Chicago Cubs fan. He and Toni enjoyed wintering in Bonita Springs, Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew. Military rites and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
