SOUTH BEND - Joseph Kambol, 76, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Joseph was born on November 1, 1936, in South Bend, to James and Julia (Rodino) Kambol, and was a lifelong resident. He had been the owner for 37 years of the former Kambol's Floral and Garden Shop on Hill Street in South Bend. On May 12, 1962, in Holy Cross Church, he married Deanna M. Medow, who survives. Also surviving are his three sons, Jim (Catherine) Kambol of Lake Forest, Illinois, Mike (Tracey) Kambol of South Bend, Indiana, and Bill (Marni) Kambol of Fenton, Missouri; and seven grandchildren, Annaliese and Griffin Kambol, Jessica, Samantha and Jonathan Kambol, and Emma and Luca Kambol. Joseph was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Kambol and Theresa Marie Kambol, who died as an infant. This past May, Joe and Deanna celebrated 50 years of marriage with dinner and time spent with their family. Joseph was a 1959 graduate of Purdue University School of Horticulture. He was a peacetime United States Army veteran. Joe was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and the former German Township Lions Club. He enjoyed gardening and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He was also a sports fan, rooting for Purdue, Notre Dame and the Cubs. Most of all, Joe was an artist and his canvas was the earth that God gave us and the work area in the back of the flower shop. He spent countless hours creating beautiful floral arrangements for various celebrations as well as produced wonderful vegetables and flowers from his many gardens. He loved being outside selling his flowers and talking with the numerous friends and customers he met over the years. His customers were loyal and loved him because of his honesty, compassion, generosity, and the beauty he brought into their lives. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013, in Corpus Christi Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the .
