Kenneth James Oakley July 29, 1923 - June 19, 2014 MISHAWAKA - Kenneth James Oakley, 90, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Tanglewood Trace assisted living in Mishawaka. Ken was born on July 29, 1923, in Mishawaka, to the late Russell Owen and Louise (Halterman) Oakley. On October 18, 1946, Ken married the former Martha Miller in St. Joseph County. Ken and Martha were married for 67 years. Martha passed away on May 14, 2013. Ken is survived by his two sons, Larry (Donna) Oakley of Mishawaka and Jeffery (Debra) Oakley of Elkhart; and a daughter, Sherry (Donald) Copp of Mishawaka. Ken was a loving and caring grandfather to 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Fisher, Matthew (Jillian) Oakley, Kenneth (Kay) Copp, Steven (Crystal) Copp, Hannah Oakley and Jessie Oakley; and a great-grandfather to 10 great-grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by his brother, Owen Oakley. Ken proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a First Class Carpenter's Mate during WW II, receiving an honorable discharge on April 27, 1946. Ken was a member of the VFW Post #360 in Mishawaka. Ken retired in 1984 from Wheelabrator-Frye as a Machinist Assemblyman after 26 years of service. Ken was an avid golfer and in his later years enjoyed watching golf on TV. The family is honoring Ken's wishes to be cremated. A private graveside service with military rites will be held at a later date at the Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka.
