SOUTH BEND - Louis J. Sharp Jr., 61, of South Bend, passed away at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 6th, at his residence of an apparent heart attack. Louis was born on April 25th to the late Louis J. and Mary Bealle (Hardesty) Sharp in Elkhart, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. On May 10, 1973, he married Sally J. Shearer, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Barbara A. Teeter of Troy NY; two sons, Jason S. (Kuyona) Sharp of St. Lucie, FL, and Edward E. Bailey of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Vincent, Shawn and Adrian Sharp; three sisters, Christine Tapple of Granite City, IL, Linda Riggs of Springfield, IL, and Nina (Tom) Filbert of Ft. Myers, FL; and three brothers, Jessie Sharp of Marcellus, IL, Sam Sharp of Granite City, IL, and Ralph Sharp of Elkhart, IN. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, and by his stepmother, Junita L. Sharp. Louis served his country in the U.S. Marines, then joined the U.S. Army National Guard, retiring after 37 years. He was a volunteer EMT/Firefighter for the Baugo Fire Department, an EMS for Culver, and an Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts Troop 31. He enjoyed CB radios, Ham radios, camping, loved computers, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Visitation will be held today, March 13th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hanley and Son's "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/State Road 23. Services will be Thursday, March 14th, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with Pastor Greg Serafino. As per his wishes, cremation will take place. The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to the family at 806 Camden St., South Bend, IN 46619, to help defray medical cost. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled services and arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Sharp family.
