MISHAWAKA - Randal L. Rockwell, 63, of Pine Crest Drive, Mishawaka, passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, following an illness. He was born on April 22, 1950 to Clarence and Naomi (Onsrud) Rockwell. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence. On April 28, 1979, he married the former Roxanne S. Kessler in LaPorte, Indiana. She survives with three sons: Marc (Jessica Davis) Rockwell of South Bend, Jeffrey Rockwell and Matthew (Chasity) Rockwell, both of Mishawaka. His Mother, Naomi Rockwell of Oregon, Wisconsin, also survives with two grandsons: Evan Rockwell and Cooper Rockwell. Also surviving are four brothers: Gregory (Cindy) Rockwell of Phoenix, Arizona, William (Betty) Rockwell of Oregon, Wisconsin, Thomas (Anita) Rockwell of Eagan, Minnesota, & Kenneth (Tina) Rockwell of Oregon, Wisconsin; and three sisters: Janice Severson of Oregon, Wisconsin, Jean (Steve) Schroeder of Lodi, California and Jill Rockwell of Oregon, Wisconsin. Randal was a graduate of Oregon High School class of 1968 and a 1973 graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Randy's career has been in engineering. Being born and raised on a dairy farm, Randy was very interested in agriculture and machinery. In his early years after graduation from UW he worked in the agricultural engineering field, enjoying Allis Chalmers, where he was able to design, build and troubleshoot farmers' problems at the factory and in the field. He started his own company, Rockwell Engineering Solutions, and over the years has consulted on many projects that he enjoyed. With his knowledge of leading projects and working with people, Randy was able to use his talents as volunteer leader of the Penn High School Marching Band show props while his sons were with the Penn Marching Kingsmen. Marc, Jeff and Matthew were very proud of their father's involvement and hard work. Randy was blessed with a willing and capable spirit and also with people around him who utilized their collective talent to make the props a success. Randy was also employed in his later years at Albright United Methodist Church as the groundskeeper and custodian. After the major fire at Albright, Randy helped coordinate volunteer groups from the community to clean up at the church. This was a very rewarding time for him. On July 8 of this year, Randy was going to start back at Albright United Methodist as the groundskeeper and custodian where he would be back to a place of friends that he loved. Randy also loved doing volunteer work at his church. He was custodian at St. Peter Lutheran for a while and during his employment there, he also served as President of the Congregation and on various other boards and committees. Most recently he was serving as an Elder and teaching 2nd-5th grade Sunday School children. Randy's most recent joy was the birth of his two grandsons, Evan in 2011 and Cooper in May 2013. Randy's garden is another accomplishment with much help from Evan. The joy from sowing, planting, hoeing, weeding and reaping the benefits of all your hard work is something you always remember. Randy enjoyed being outside under God's beautiful blue sky and in his yard having fun with his family and friends. Visitation for Randal will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 437 Dragoon Trail East, Mishawaka, IN from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, with visitation also on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 PM at the church. Funeral services will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the church with Pastor Bryan Borger officiating. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church. Bubb Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
