Richard Budka Sr. Sept. 8, 1946 - May 17, 2014 HAMLET - Richard J. Budka Sr., 67, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at IU Health Starke Hospital, Knox, IN after a sudden illness. Mr. Budka was born September 8, 1946 in North Judson, IN to James and Mildred (Bohac) Budka and lived in the area all of his life. He was a former employee of the Starke County Highway Department, founding member and coach for the O-D Summer Baseball League for many years, a past-member of the Hamlet Volunteer Fire Department, and the co-founder of the O-D Athletic Boosters. He was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran. On October 19, 1968 in North Judson, IN, he was married to the former Shirley Hogue. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; three sons, Steve (Shelley) Budka of Knox, Scott (Kiley) Budka of Martinsburg, WV, and Rick Jr. (Deanna) Budka of Union Mills; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Tyler, Derek, Kayla, Maureen, and Thomas; three sisters, Nancy Foushi of Munster, Joyce Van Kley of Munster, and Sharon (Ken) Pfost of North Judson, and one brother, Bruce Budka of Westville. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. CDT at the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Friends may call Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the O-D Athletic Department or the Starke County Humane Society.
