GRANGER - Richard Earl Jones, 69, of Granger, IN, died Saturday, November 16th. A native of New Jersey, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Westminster College (B. Mus., New Wilmington, PA). He completed graduate studies in musicology (M.F.A., Ohio University) and Library Science (M.S., University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill). Before becoming music librarian at the University of Notre Dame, a position from which he retired in 2006, he was associate librarian for collection management at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he had previously served as music librarian. He spent several years as readers' advisor in music at Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey), and was the first music librarian at Ohio University. His scholarly articles were published nationally and internationally. He held various offices in the Music Library Association and the Midwest Chapter of that organization. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda, and the Society for Scholarly Publishing, the International Association of Music Libraries, the College and Research Libraries Association, and the Library of Congress Associates. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Collins Jones. A service honoring his life in music will be held on Sunday evening, December 15 at 6 o'clock at St. James Cathedral-Episcopal.
