LAKEVILLE - Richard L. Stanley, Sr., 82 years of age, passed away at the home of his daughter in South Bend at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014. Mr. Stanley was born on October 13, 1931 in Lakeville to the late Orville and Ruth (Sousley) Stanley. He has remained a lifelong resident of Lakeville. On June 12, 1951 in Middlebury, he married Beverly A. Finicle who preceded in death on January 13, 2010. Five brothers, Kenneth, Melvin, Delbert, James and Danny, also preceded in death. Mr. Stanley retired from the Town of Lakeville where he was the Town Marshall for 24 years. During his career, he was honored by St. Joseph County for winning "The Policeman of the Year" award. Mr. Stanley proudly served his country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars with the United States Marine Corps, where he was enlisted for 20 years. He was also aboard a ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. Stanley was a member of the FOP Lodge #155 in South Bend and an associate for Gleaners Life Insurance Society. Mr. Stanley is survived by his four children: Maria Stanley of Mishawaka, Sharon (Kathryn) Stanley of South Bend, Richard (Sue) Stanley of Lakeville, and Chick (Tonya) Stanley of Lakeville; twelve grandchildren: Mallory, T.J., Kayleigh, Jordan, Anne-Marie, Alexandria, Chad, Tara, Kendra, Charla, Becka, and Dana; ten great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and one sister, Margie Trobaugh of Lake Placid, FL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Lakeville United Methodist Church, 610 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN. Rev. Brian White and Rev. Calvin Macon will officiate. Military graveside services and burial will follow at Porter Rae Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
