S. Chadwick Smith Sept. 6, 1929 - June 18, 2014 GRANGER - S. Chadwick "Chad" Smith, 84, residing in Granger, passed away Wednesday morning at home. He was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Illinois, to the late Stuyvesant and Eunice (Young) Smith and had lived in the South Bend area since 1956, coming from Oak Park, IL. On April 10, 1952, in Indiana, Chad married Marcia (Finley) Smith. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2006, after 54 years of marriage. He was also preceded by a son, Perry Smith, on August 28, 2012. Chad is survived by his son, Randolph Townsend (Bobbi Robertson-Smith) Smith of Waukegan, IL; daughter-in-law, Nicky Smith of Lafayette, IN; grandchildren, Ian and Kent Smith and Lou Ann Hamilton; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Jones. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Sharon Kane of Plano, TX; sister-in-law, Betty (Russell) James of California; and brother-in-law, John (Lois) Finley of Bethesda, MD. Chad is also survived by his longtime business partner, Al Zeisz. The partnership, Smith-Zeisz Company, Realtors, was formed with a handshake, and based on mutual trust and respect, lasting over 50 years. This partnership survived until Chad's death. Chad served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Indiana University and served as president of his sophomore class. He was also a world traveler. There will be no public services. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
