ELKHART - Victor "Vic" Arko, 79, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 10, 2013) at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born May 28, 1934, in Elkhart, to the late Lewis and Pauline (Strukel) Arko. Victor is survived by the love of his life, Dreama; and three daughters, Sue Arko of Gilbert, AZ, Marianne Arko of Phoenix, AZ, and Nancy (William) Kapler of Phoenix; 7 grandchildren: Allison Kapler of Coronado, CA, Kaitlin Kapler, Nicole Kapler, and Nicolas Kapler of Phoenix, Tara Pike of Los Angeles, CA, Shelby Pike of Phoenix, and Jacey Wigley of Gilbert, AZ; sister, Eleanor Haney of Elkhart; brother, Albert "Al" (Kate) Arko of Elkhart; and his longtime secretary of 44 years, Marla (Laron) Beyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, William "Bill" Arko. Vic was a 1952 graduate of Elkhart High School, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, in 1956, and the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1959. He had been a practicing Attorney in Elkhart since 1959. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association and the Elkhart City Bar Association. He was a member of Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1043, IARA, Elkhart Moose Lodge # 599, and a Life Member of Elkhart Elks Lodge # 425. Vic was an ardent Notre Dame supporter and avid golfer. He so enjoyed the CCCC group of men that he golfed with on a regular weekly basis, & his many trips to AZ to visit his daughters & their families. Memorials may be given to St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Elkhart; , 250 Williams St., NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30303; , 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004; or , 225 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601. Online condolences may be sent to In accordance with Victor's wishes, his body will be cremated, with arrangements by Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral and Cremation Center. A Victor Arko Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at Christiana Creek Country Club/Elkhart Elks, 116 W. Bristol, Elkhart.
