Winifred Needham Salyer Dec. 20, 1927 - June 7, 2014 MISHAWAKA - Winifred Needham Salyer, 86, of Mishawaka, died at 2:30 A.M. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at her residence. Winifred was born on December 20, 1927, in Terre Haute, IN to the late Wallace A. and Mildred (Hansel) Myer. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Walter Myer. On December 21, 1947, in Terre Haute, Mildred married Robert A. Needham. He died on February 2, 1985. On September 10, 1988, in Mishawaka, she married Edward F. Salyer. He survives. Also surviving are her children, Martha (Greg) Needham Shearer of Roswell, GA, Richard (Patti) Needham of Arlington Heights, IL and Michael (Heidi) Needham of White Pigeon, MI and Ed's children, Craig (Candi) Salyer of Mishawaka, Mark (Jeanna) Salyer of Bristol, IN and Jill (Mark) Murphy of Hamilton, OH. There are also eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren surviving. Winifred was a school teacher for School City of Mishawaka for 18 years, retiring in 1991. She taught at Twin Branch, Mary Phillips, Beiger and Hums. Winifred was a member of the First United Methodist Church as well as the choir and was also a Circle Leader for the church. She was a member of the PEO and the Beiger Trust. She also played the piano for the worship services at Tanglewood Trace, where she and Ed lived. Her greatest joy, though, was her family. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 Monday at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third St., Mishawaka with the Rev. Carolyn Kern officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
