George A. Weygand Obituary
George Alexander Weygand PhD passed away March 2, 2014, at St. Lukes Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. George was the husband to the late Beatrice (Mallowes) Weygand, who passed away in Dec. of 2013. George was born May 22, 1926, to the late George and Elizabeth (Ramsay) Weygand. He grew up in Taunton and attended Taunton public schools, graduating from Taunton High School in 1944. A veteran of World War II, George served in the Air Force in the Pacific Theater of Operations as an Aerial Engineer in the 5th Air Force. He graduated Bridgewater State College in 1953 and went on to earn his doctorate at Harvard University in 1961. George was a Physics professor and department chairperson at Bridgewater State College for forty-one years and also served as College Marshal for the period. A respected scientific educator, George received many awards locally, statewide, and nationally for his educational contributions. He was active in the community serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees for Brockton Hospital and a member of the board for twenty years, as president and chairman of the Board of the Bridgewater Cooperative Bank and board member for more than thirty-five years. George is survived by his children, Joanne L. Fallon of Scituate and Sandra E. Hiller and her husband Robert of Rochester. He was grandfather to Atticus Fallon, Hannah Hartigan, Brooke Fallon, Tess Hedblom, Jacob Hiller, and Paige Hiller; great-grandfather to Grace Hartigan; brother to the late Donald M. Weygand and the late Marilyn Jacobson; brother-in-law to Dorothy Beauchemin of Wareham; and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held in the Central Square Congregational Church, 71 Central Square, Bridgewater, Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. followed by a reception at the Weygand Hall at Bridgewater State University. Burial will be held Saturday afternoon at Old Landing Cemetery, Marion. Visiting hours will be held in the Prophett Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, Friday, March 7, from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Dr. George A.
