John J. "Jack" "dear sweet Jack" McGrath Jr., 69, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, with his loving family at his side, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born in Boston, the son of the late John and Constance (Di Monte) McGrath, he had been a Quincy resident for the past 32 years. Jack served proudly in the U.S. Army. He was a longtime dedicated vice president of sales of Arnold Industries in Canton, where he had many friendships. He was a late member of the American Legion and the VFW Post. Jack enjoyed his vacations with his family on Cape Cod and traveling with his wife Jan to their home in Boynton Beach, Fla. Jack was known for entertaining his family and friends with his witty sense of humor. He was the beloved husband of Jan M. Peterson-McGrath of Quincy; and devoted father of John J. III and his wife Karen of Dover, Todd and his wife Stacey and Scott and his wife Rebecca, all of Bridgewater, and Kimberly Shea and her husband Michael of Raynham. Jack had a special bond with Pam and Jeffrey of Quincy. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Erin, Adam, Samantha, Alex, Kyle, Matthew, Alison, Veronica, Tabitha, Emily, Katherine and Ava; his wonderful sister, Franny Dockham; his many beloved sisters and brothers-in law; his dear niece and nephew, Madison and Cameron, and many other loving nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Toni Ricci. Jack also appreciated the support of his longtime dear friends, Hinda Marcus and Al and Sandy. Funeral Mass at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 40 Darrow St., Quincy, Saturday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Friday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
