Joseph G. Collins Sr., 89, formerly of East Bridgewater, passed away peacefully Feb. 2, 2013, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, N.H. Joseph was born in Whitman, Mass., May 15, 1923, to the late Elwood and Ethel Collins. In 1956, he founded Collins Crane and Rigging Service of East Bridgewater, Mass. He and his wife lived briefly in Yarmouth, Mass., during his semi-retirement before moving to New Hampshire. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Ruth E. (Cobbett) Collins in the year of 2004. He was also predeceased by his twin sister, Doris Parker, and his sister, Edna Vallancourt, as well as his brother, Stanley Collins. He had seven wonderful children in his life, Carol A. Rapp of Walden, N.Y., Joseph G, Collins Jr. of Brownsville, Vt., and Ogden, Utah, Jane E. King of New London, N.H., Phillip E. Collins of Bridgewater, Mass., Susan Peirce of Georges Mills, N.H., Steven E. Collins of Middleboro, Mass., and Peter A. Collins of West Bridgewater, Mass. He also had 18 wonderful grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Evelyn Anderson of Abington, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Lois Buckley of Rochester, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main St., New London, NH, Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, from 4-6 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Union Congregational Church in East Bridgewater. Burial will follow in Beaver Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 2209, New London, NH 03257, or to the NH Veterans Home, 139 Winter St., Tilton, NH 03276.
