Robert E. Keene, age 92, of Halifax and Rockland died on July 21, 2014. He was predeceased by his mother and father Harold and Bessie Keene and sister Evelyn of Rockland and sons John (Jack) of Hanson and Robert and daughter-law Kathy of Wareham. He grew up in Rockland and is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Mary (Chilton) Keene. He is survived by a son James and his wife Barbara of Mashpee and Naples, Florida. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Gail Keene of Hanson. He was the loving grandfather of Scott and Kathleen Keene and family of Hanson, Kelly Cummings and her husband Jim and family of Plymouth, Lisa Keene and family of New Bedford, Kim Keene of Wareham, David and Danielle Keene and family of Somerville, Faith Keene of Bridgewater, Chris Keene and family of Plymouth, Kevin Keene and family of Hanson, Kim and Richey Breault and family of Plympton and Justin and Sue Keene and family of Plympton and Katie Ordway of Wareham. He was the loving great-grandfather and great great-grandfather of many. He was a graduate of Rockland High School. A World War II veteran of the Pacific campaign and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He worked at the Brockton V.A. Hospital and was a retired Postal Worker in the Town of Rockland having delivered mail as a carrier for many years. After retirement he did volunteer work at the Council of Aging in Halifax. He and Mary enjoyed traveling and Country and Western music and were actively on the go until his recent illness. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Joseph the Worker Church, 1 Maquan St., Hanson, MA 02341 on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10 a.m. Internment will be held on a future date.
