Robert V. Vince Simmons, 82 years old, died in his home, on Friday morning, Aug. 30 2013. He was born in Taunton son of the late Claude and Emma (Murphy) Simmons. He was graduate of Taunton High School class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was discharged as a Sgt. He received the Korean Svc Medal with 2 bronze stars, United Nations Svc Medal, National Defense Svc Medal and the Combat Medical Badge. For over 35 years he worked for Grossmans Lumber, in Taunton for 10 years and then in Braintree for 25 years, retiring as a Yard Foreman. He proudly served as the Commander of Post 611 VFW in Taunton and was also a member of the Honor Guard. Vince also was member of the Berkley American Legion Post. He enjoyed camping a the Bourne Scenic Park, fishing and boating. He was a member of the Flying Rupp Raiders Snow Mobile Club. He is the father of Jason Simmons of Taunton and proud grandfather of his granddaughters Jacquelyn Kay; Allyson Jean; Kaylee Marie; Michelle Liegh and Robyn Nichols Simmons. Bob is the former husband of Eunice (Doherty) Simmons of Taunton and the brother of Shirley Ferreira of Middleboro and Edward, Frederick, Paul, Leo, Claude, Francis, Gregory Simmons all of Taunton and the late George and Russell Simmons. He is the God father of Bruce Simmons. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours on Thursday evening from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. (Rte. 138 south) Taunton. A funeral service will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to either the VFW Post, Ingell Street, Taunton or the American Legion Post, Myricks Street, Berkley.
