Vincent J. Smith Jr., 83, a resident of Easton for the past 45 years, died Sunday evening at home under the care of his family. He was the husband of Susanne (Boulet) Smith for 53 years. Born in Killingly, Conn., Jan. 10, 1930, a son of the late Vincent and Agnes (Conway) Smith, he was raised in Taunton and was a graduate of Coyle Cassidy High School. He attended Wagner College in New York and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving as and electricians mate and fireman. Vincent was employed as a boiler inspector for Hartford Insurance Group of CT. for 35 years. After his retirement, he worked as a consultant for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. A communicant of the Holy Cross Church in Easton, he was an avid hunter who enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors. In addition to his wife Susanne, he is survived by five adult children, Jeanne Biggart of Reading, Col. Stephen Smith of Montpelier, Vt., Michael Smith of Assonet, Col. Dennis Smith of Maryland and Thomas Smith of Duxbury; his siblings, Pauline Pollyann Logan of Longmeadow, Barbara Zachary of Ind., Joyce Katon of SC., Edward Ted Smith of Dennisport, Robert Smith of Reading, Donald Smith of Fla., and the late Elizabeth McGlynn; also survived by 11 grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington St. (Rte. 138), Easton, Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in the Holy Cross Church, Easton, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Taunton.
