Cheryl J. (Mathews) (Bridgers) Grafton, 66, of Punta Gorda, Fla., formerly of Braintree, Mass., succumbed to breast cancer, and passed away at home, with family by her side, Feb. 19, 2013. Through it all, she had an inspiring attitude and remarkable spirit. Cheryl worked for 30 years in office administration at General Motors Parts Division before retiring. She was predominantly involved in the community by volunteering for 10 years with Punta Gorda Police Department and she generously supported Crossroads for Boys. Cheryl was known for the splendid hats she wore to Congregational United Church, Florida, where she was a member. Cheryl enjoyed playing cards with friends, picking apples and blueberries for baking, and crocheting baby blankets. She loved shopping yard sales, planning festivities for every occasion, and traveling with her husband across the country. She will be deeply missed by her partner and lover of 25 years and husband and best friend of 11 years, Vinnie of Punta Gorda, Fla. Her passing will be profoundly felt by daughter, Lisa Jessick and husband Dennis; son, John Bridgers; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Bridgers; stepsons, Paul Grafton and Ed Grafton and wife Bonnie; and many touched by her thoughtfulness. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine (Wright) Mathews, and her sisters, Bonnie Brandi and Linda Eason. A memorial service to celebrate Cheryl's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Granite Grill, Braintree, immediately followed by brunch. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cheryl's memory may be made to John M. Mathews Scholarship Fund, c/o BHS, 348 Pond St., Braintree, MA 02184. Arrangements were by Larry Taylor Cremation Services.
