Francis T. Sullivan Sr. of West Island, Fairhaven, formerly of Weymouth and Dorchester, passed away Feb. 16, 2013 at the age of 88. Frank was a proud Navy veteran of WWII, serving aboard the USS Woolsey DD-437. Because of his contribution in sinking two German subs, he received a letter of commendation and was mentioned in the book Tin Cans. For many years he worked at Harvard University as the Assistant Director of Building and Grounds. He was incredibly handy and could build and fix anything. An antique car enthusiast, he owned two early Fords, including a 1918 Model T. He loved camping with his family and was a member of the Wompatuck Camping Club. After his wife passed away, Frank became very involved with his fellow Woolsey shipmates. He served as the editor of the Woolsey newspaper and ran the reunion committee for many years. He was the husband of the late Agnes R. (Nugent) Sullivan. Loving father of William of New Bedford, Francis T., Jr. of Bridgewater, Paul R. of Weymouth and Regina Sullivan Morrisey of Brockton. Devoted grandfather to Lindsey Sullivan of Buzzards Bay, Jamie Kjelgaard of Bridgewater, Shannon Price of Dunwoody, GA, Michael Sullivan of Manchester, NH, Christopher Sullivan of Raynham, Kendra Morrisey of Brockton and his 5 great-grandchildren. Dear friend of Mary Wightman. Frank was the last of his nine siblings including Thomas, Joseph, Phillip, Edward, John, Robert, Elizabeth Brennan and Eileen Whalen. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4 - 8 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home, South Weymouth, at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hosp.)
