James G. Padula, Quincy Fire Department, Retired, age 79, a lifelong Quincy resident, died peacefully, Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Quincy Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Quincy, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School. Jim was a Quincy firefighter for twenty-four years. He was appointed to the department on February 24, 1962 and retired on October 17, 1986. He worked throughout the city and was assigned to Engine 8 at the time of his retirement. He was a Korean War veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Cyril P. Morrisette American Legion Post #294 in Quincy and the Braintree DAV. Jim enjoyed his New Hampshire vacation home, hunting, fishing, motorcycles and travelling. He also loved animals of all types and sizes. He was totally devoted to his family. Beloved husband for fifty-eight years of Velia O. (Farrara) Padula. Devoted father of Dolores M. Shannon of Quincy, Derelyn A. Padula of NH and the late James G. Padula. Loving grandfather of Tina Marie Shannon. Dear brother of Martha R. McKenzie of Marstons Mills and the late Maryann Monti, the late Frederick Padula, the late Louis Padula and the late Lena Padula. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Saturday, April 27, at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10 oclock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home Friday, 4 | 7 p.m. Interment with military honors to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Quincy.
