John F. Richmond Obituary
John F. "Jack" Richmond of Hingham passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the Soldiers Home In Chelsea. He was 94. He was the husband of the late Helen (Carlisle) Richmond; and the father of Linda Fanara and Judy Cahalan, married to Dan, of Quincy, Lee Richmond, married to Sherrie, of Jamestown, N.C., Susan Amonte of North Port, Fla., and Steven Richmond of Gilford, N.H. He leaves 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was also the grandfather of the late Matthew Fanara. He was Uncle Jack to many nieces and nephews. Born in Boston, he grew up in Milton, the son of the late Melvin and Elsada Richmond and brother of the late Elinor Roulston, Marion McCauley and Jean Whelpley. Jack served his country during World War II as an Italian interpreter overseas. He also attended Yale University. Jack had been a Hingham resident since 1945 where he and Helen raised their five children. He was an avid sailor, handyman and all around "Jack of all trades". He retired as a machinist from Proctor and Gamble in 1982. He also enjoyed doing sudukos, jumbles, and crossword puzzles which he would complete in pen. He enjoyed good health and until recently had been splitting logs, moving furniture and driving his truck which was a gift to him from his children for his 90th birthday. Funeral services are private. Donations may be made to PBS, Channel 2 or the in memory of his beloved wife Helen.
