John N. Bowes, age 85, passed away peacefully, June 16, 2013. Born in Boston, he grew up in Neponset and was a proud member of St. Ann Parish Band. A Milton resident for many years, he most recently resided in Quincy. Mr. Bowes was a graduate of UNH and a member of the UNH Football Hall of Fame, holding the record for most touchdowns in a season from 1951 to 1975. He received his post graduate degree from Boston State College. A Veteran of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Bowes was a retired Teacher and Football Coach of Milton H.S. and North Quincy H.S., as well as a former member of McKeon Amvets Post, Dorchester and the Milton Post #114, A.L. The beloved husband of the late Kathleen C. (Watson); he is survived by his devoted children, Maureen B. Tolson of Sturbridge, John W. of Westwood, Michael J. and Timothy P., both of Quincy, Kathie S. of Philadelphia, PA, James K. of Walpole; and 14 cherished grandchildren. He was the father of the late Patrick D. Bowes and brother of the late Robert, Edward and Paul Bowes. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Friday morning at 10:30. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Milton Cemetery.
