Marie (Powers) Schoonmaker, of South Weymouth, formerly of Dorchester, died July 6, 2013. Marie served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She was a 40 year employee of the U.S. Government and later worked as the Director of Volunteer Services at South Shore Hospital. She was an avid golfer, was active in Whipple Senior Center, enjoyed trips to Foxwoods and loved to shop at Talbots. She was a regular at Bobs Muffin Shop in Columbian Square in South Weymouth where a picture of her and her husband hangs in their formal Navy uniforms. Wife of 63 years to the late William Schoonmaker. Loving mother of Lois Schoonmaker of South Weymouth and the late Joan Pompeo. Loving sister of Eleanor Tully, Claire McCaul, both of South Weymouth, and the late Msgr. Robert Powers, Richard Powers and Paul Powers. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and her dog Chrissy. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth, at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 a.m. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
