Richard A. Martell, 94, of Damariscotta, Maine, formerly of Weymouth and Houghs Neck, passed away Aug. 7, 2014 at Coves Edge Nursing Facility in Damariscotta. He was the loving husband of more than 72 years to the late Doris (Rioux) Martell. Born in Quincy July 2, 1920, Richards early years were spent in Houghs Neck. He resided on Idlewell Blvd in Weymouth for 67 years before spending the final year of his life in Maine. He served his country with Honor as a submariner in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was discharged with the rank Seaman First Class in 1946. Richards long and industrious wood-pattern-making career started before the war even began at the Fore River Shipyard. His passion for his work was well known, and when he retired he held the position of Manager of the Pattern Making Shop at Pneumatic Scale Corp. Mr. Martell thoroughly enjoyed planning and carrying out renovations to his Weymouth home, and he was also an avid fisherman in his down-time. His most enjoyable times, however, were those spent with his loving family. In 2010 he was predeceased by his wife Doris Rioux Martell and son Richard D. Martell, who was formerly of Bourne. He was the loving father of Ardy Greatorex and her husband Frank of Waldoboro, Maine. Dear brother of Warren Martell and his wife Penny of Abington, and father-in-law of Maria Martell of Bourne. Also survived by 6 cherished grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. As the family wishes to celebrate his long and loving life privately, funeral and burial arrangements will not be announced.
