Robert G. Avery, 93, of Sandwich, a former resident of Quincy and Milton, died July 4, 2014. He was the husband of Annette E. Avery for sixty eight years. Born and educated in Quincy. He was a graduate of Brown University where he completed the equivalent of four years of studies in twenty-eight months and was award a Bachelor of Arts Degree. While at Brown he served as a Treasurer an the President of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. During World War II, he served in both the Navy and Marine Corp. After his Honorable discharge he moved to Milton where he owned and operated his own Real Estate office for twelve years. He was a member of The National Association of Real Estate and the Greater Boston Real Estate Board, as well as the Milton Rotary Club. Mr. Avery moved to South Yarmouth in 1960 where he purchased Seawood Ocean Courts on South Shore Drive in Bass River which he sold in 1972. The same year he purchased Moby Dick's Gift Shop and Lobster-in-the Rough Restaurant on Rte. 28 in West Yarmouth. He sold this property in 1984 and retired. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed sports, fishing off Monomy and Nantucket. In addition to his wife, Mr. Avery is survived by his daughter Andrea A. Donovan (John) of Sandwich, four grandsons; Robert G. Avery III (Megan) and Rodney a Avery (Sheila), both of South Yarmouth, Matthew F. Grady (Elizabeth) of Forestdale and John R. Grady of Quincy, and three great-grandchildren. His son Robert G. Avery Jr. pre-deceased him in May of 1992. Visiting hours are omitted. Funeral service will be private.
