Thomas E. Moore Obituary
Thomas E. Moore bravely went to God June 28, 2014, surrounded by his adoring family, at the age of 70. Son of the late Thomas E. Sr. and Rita (Leahy), he was born in Somerville, May 2, 1944, and grew up in Kingston. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Stonehill College, and he earned a masters degree in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame. He valued creativity, curiosity, and logic, expressing these interests through his career as a professor of Mathematics at Bridgewater State University for over 44 years. In his professional career, he was an active member of the MAA and Pi Mu Epsilon. He was a recipient of the Dr. V. James DiNardo Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1991 and the MAA Award (Northeast Section) for Distinguished College or University Teaching in 1993 and was a 2014 inductee to the ATMIM Mathematics Educators Hall of Fame. He was a leader of the music ministry at St. Joseph the Worker parish through his singing and playing the guitar. His other interests included playing tennis, enjoying science fiction and mysteries, multicultural appreciation, and spending time with his grandchildren. Thomas is survived by his wife of 43 blessed years, Kathleen (Rafferty); his loving children, Jennifer A. of Northampton, Bridget and Christopher McNamara and their children, Maeve and Michael of Seekonk, Eileen and Scott Kudlacik and their daughter, Nola of Scituate, and Kathleen D. of Williamsburg, Va.; brother to Rita L. Clasby of Plympton and Terance B. of Middleboro; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 2 Maquan St., at the corner of Rte. 14 and 58, in Hanson, Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson.
