Frank Nanney, age 93, of Rutherfordton, NC, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. Frank was a native of Rutherford County and born in Cliffside. He was the son of the late Willie Worth Nanney and Maymie Freeman Nanney. Frank was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was an accountant for Stonecutter Mills, a member of Round Hill Baptist Church and the former choir director. Frank was a ham radio operator, avid golfer and a member of the Board of Trustees at Gardner Webb University. He graduated from Wake Forest University and was a life long member of the Deacon Club. He was also a member of the national association of Accountants and a strong supporter of education and countless other charities. He was a director and member of a Barber Shop Quartet in Rutherford County. He was the fourth of seven children and loved his family very much. Frank was preceded in death by four brothers: Louis Nanney, Hugh Nanney, Powell Nanney and Neal Nanney, two sisters: Lucile Nanney and Lillian Wilkins, Niece: Emily Newton, and Nephew: Louis Nanney Jr.
He is survived by One Nephew David Nanney, Three Nieces, Mary Ann Van Pelt, Mary Ellen Jennings, Sally Nanney, Eight great nephews, four great nieces, two great great nephews and seven great great nieces.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Maxine Shelton, Anne Sollars, Marie Stallings, and Sandy Darnell. They were all so instrumental in helping him remain at home. Also a special thanks to his doctors and their medical staff as well as the hospital staff of Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Saturday, August 9, 2014 prior to the service at Round Hill Baptist Church. The Funeral service will be at Round Hill Baptist Church at 3:00 PM, Saturday, August 9, 2014 with Rev. Dean Baughn officiating. Interment will be at Rutherfordton City Cemetery.
