WOODRUFF, SC-- James Robert King Sr., 77, of 43 Eli Cox Road, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at his home.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late William Lee and Maudie Mae Hoard King. He was a member of Simpsonville Freewill Baptist Church and was retired from MEMC. Mr. King was a retired U.S. Army Veteran and also served in the National Guard Reserve with a total of 27 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Worthy King of the home; two sons, Robert King of Woodruff and Allen King of Woodruff; three daughters, Debra Childers of Woodruff, Sandra King of Woodruff and Rose Marie King of Woodruff; two sisters, Bobbie Jean Moates of Gastonia, NC and Edith Owens of Ninety Six; one brother, Wallace King of Blacksburg; fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. King is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and a host of special friends along with the special children that he and Mrs. King babysat for.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 6, 2014 at 3:15 PM at Lanford-Gwinn Mortuary Chapel by Rev. Jerry Taylor and Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Interment will follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers are: Brian Culbertson, William King, Billy Moates, Junior Worthy, Larry Worthy and William Worthy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 120 Heywood Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
