PEACHTREE CITY, GA- Patricia Skelton Liphardt of Peachtree City, GA, died peacefully on November 16, 2012. She was born on October 14, 1932, in Spartanburg, SC, the daughter of William Paul Skelton and Ruby Powell Skelton.
She attended Duke University, Converse College, and later graduated from Queens College, Charlotte, NC with a B.A. in History. In the mid-1950's she worked for Carl Sandburg at his home in Flat Rock, NC. As a gifted soprano, Pat was proud to have studied voice with Hermanus Baer, Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University. She sand in numerous church choirs throughout her lifetime, and for a few years, the Bell Telephone Chorus in Chicago. She enjoyed reading, family history, cooking, bird watching, classic films, and making a home beautiful. Pat had a dry sense of humor, quick wit, and an exceptional memory.
One of the most important things to her was her faith, and her commitment to the Episcopal Church. Whever she lived, she was heavily involved in local parish life; in addition to choir, she was a member of the vestry, altar guild, Episcopal Church Women, and for many years parish treasurer. Additionally, she took mission trips during the 1990's led by Marilyn Hickey Ministries. Her places of residence include Spartanburg, SC, Charlotte, NC, Pittsburgh, PA, Arlington Heights, IL, Pawleys Island, SC, and Peachtree City, GA.
She is survived by one brother, Robert (Carole) Skelton; two children, Patricia Eversman (Jerry) O'Hara and Robert Eversman; two grandchildren, Brendan and Caitlin O'Hara; four stepchildren, William Paul Liphardt, Judith Ann Reno, Dorothy Susan Liphardt, and John Walter Liphardt; two brothers-in-law, Jack (Judith) Eversman and John (Lillian) Kortheuer; four nephews, Dr. William (Nadine) Skelton, Dr. John (Sherri) Skelton, Steve (Nanette) Kortheuer, and Johnny Kortheuer; five nieces, Martha (Cliff) Patrick, Cindy (Alan) Carter, Carol (Danny) Ferguson, Lynn (Stephen) Zeringue, and Francis Kortheuer. She was preceded in death by her father, William Paul Skelton (1994); mother, Ruby Powell Skelton (1969); husband of 29 years, William D. Liphardt (2004); brother, William Paul Skelton, Jr. (2005); two sisters-in-law, Nancy Kortheuer (1967) and Nancy Skelton (2005); and one nephew, John Dillon Eversman III (1991).
A funeral service was held on November 21, 2012, at St. Andrew's in the Pines Episcopal Church, Peachtree City, GA. Music during the service featured some of her favorite composers; J. S. Bach, Gabriel Faure, Thomas Matthews, and G. P. Telemann. The interment will be Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 2:00 PM in All Saints Waccamaw Cemetery, 3560 Kings River Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.
