GAFFNEY, SC-- R.C. Humphries, 94, formerly of 1302 Champion Ferry Road, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born in Gaffney, he was the loving husband of Lois Ruppe Humphries for 62 years and the son of the late Roland Humphries and Laura Allison Humphries. He was a United States World War II Army Veteran, having earned the Purple Heart. He was retired from textiles and farming and had a great love for gardening. Mr. Humphries was a member of Lavonia Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, also surviving are two sons, Ricky Humphries and wife, Cathy and Donnie Humphries, all of Gaffney; a daughter, Kay Miller and husband, Steve of Gaffney; four sisters, Louise Bartee of Moorseboro, NC, Annie Mae Bridges of Boiling Springs, NC, Joyce Wilkie and Mary Bratton, both of Gaffney; four grandchildren, Shannon Holland, Dawn Womack and husband, Tyler, Cameron Miller and Elizabeth Miller; three great-grandchildren, Connor Holland, Karson Womack and Emma Grace Womack; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Humphries was preceded in death by a brother, Kirk Humphries; and a sister, Edna Stroupe.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Lavonia Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. David Slatton and Rev. Rich Lancaster officiating. Interment will be in Lavonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
