GAFFNEY, SC-- Charles Wayne Parker, 64, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late Rufus and Addie Harris Parker. Wayne proudly served his country in the 1st Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps. He was critically wounded in Vietnam and received The Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Good Conduct medals. He was inducted into the Cherokee County Hall of Bravery for his distinguished service to his country. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, where he played football. He was retired from McDaniel Construction and previously employed with Sanders Brothers, where he was Vice President. He was a mason, shriner, member of the VFW and Elks Lodge and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.
Surviving is a son, Nicholas Parker of Beaufort; a daughter, Brandy Fulcher and husband, Jason of Taylors; a brother, Tommy Parker and wife, Carol of Spartanburg; six grandchildren; and special friends, Jim and Christy Touchberry. Mr. Parker was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Parker.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Blakely Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Mathis and Brian Honeycutt officiating. Military honors will be rendered after the memorial service.
