MILL SPRING, NC-- William (Bill) Fisher Jones, 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in Asheville's Mission Hospital, surrounded by his wife and sons, from injuries suffered from a fall at his home.
He was born August 11, 1939, in Pittsburgh, P.A. to the late William and Dorothy Kiesling Jones. Bill graduated from Kiski Prep in Saltzburg, P.A., and earned a BBA in Business Administration from the University of Miami in 1963. He was a proud U.S. Marine, and served in the reserves from 1961-1967. Bill worked for IBM, Proctor and Gamble, and was the district manager and the director of sales development for MM Mars Candy Company in Chicago, I.L. Upon moving to Campobello, S.C., he owned Peach Valley Farms and General Travel Agency in Spartanburg, S.C. After retirement, he owned and managed Viewmont Apartments in Tryon, N.C. Bill enjoyed fox hunting, golf, fly fishing, and just being with friends and family. He was a member of the Downtown Spartanburg and Tryon Rotary Clubs, the Piedmont Club, member and on the session of the Tryon Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Red Fox and Bright's Creek golf clubs. He was also President of the Tryon Hounds. He loved working with children, and was a Big Brother, and headed the RIF reading program at the Polk Central School for 10 years. Bill volunteered at the House of Flags Museum and Steps to Hope. He served on the boards of Steps to Hope and St. Luke's Hospital Foundation, and previously served on the Polk County Board of Adjustments.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Elsa Carolyn Jones; three sons, William Fisher Jones Jr. (Jill), Andrew Erwin Norman Jones (Mary), and Timothy Scott Jones (Karen); 1 sister, Dorothy Jones Menges (Elmer). Also surviving are six grandchildren, Will, Henry, Zackery, Sydney, Drew, and Mia; a niece Meghan and a nephew David.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Tryon Presbyterian Church with Dr. Dent Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
