ERICKSON, Delbert E. "Swede" (Age 83) Was born July 22, 1930 in Malung, MN., to Oscar and Dorothy Erickson. He passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 in Spokane WA. Swede grew up on a farm and joined the Navy at age 17. Following 20 years of service to his country Swede left the Navy and started a new career as an Agent for Lutheran Mutual Insurance Co. After a successful 31 years he retired in 2000. Swede was a "man's man" and wanted everyone to be a better person. He set goals and achieved them, setting a great example. He enjoyed snow skiing, hunting, fishing and especially dancing. Swede was active and held office in the Western Dance Association and the Spokane Area Council and was a Charter member of the Dancing Shadows Square Dance Club. He also loved to travel with the 5th Wheel Gang, traveling to Alaska, South Carolina and all points in between. Swede was a member of the "Mall Walkers Society" and this helped him to finish all 37 Bloomsday Races. His driving force was to be oldest to have done them all. Although active in many areas, Swede's greatest times were with his family who will miss him dearly. Swede is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Eunice; daughters, Nancy Erickson (Dave), and Terrie Stratton (Tony); brothers, Darrel Erickson (Barbara), Gordon Erickson (Sally), James Erickson (Ala), and Leslie Erickson (Vicki); sister, Fay Palm; grandchildren, Christopher Norman, Jon Norman (Angie), Brad Stratton and Tyler Stratton; great-grandchildren, Christian Norman and Ryleigh Norman; also many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lester Erickson; and sister, Phyllis Sandstrom. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 8441 N. Indian Trail Rd.
