HODGES, Libby (Elizabeth) Beloved wife of Kevin and devoted mother to Ryan and Owen died peacefully on Friday morning, July 18, 2014 in her Spokane home surrounded in the loving embrace of her family. Libby, a long-term breast cancer survivor and spirited advocate for breast cancer awareness battled the disease with courage, strength and unyielding optimism for over 18 years. Her dedication to life and living was echoed in her fierce love for her family and friends, an inspiring nature that she maintained until the end. Everyone lucky enough to know Libby and be touched by her easy smile and open, fun loving nature will remember Libby as always cheerful and looking toward the future that, for her, was always bright and hopeful. She lived life to its fullest and over the years of battling her illness became an avid cyclist along with her husband, biking miles to bring awareness and inspiration to her cause and all who suffer with breast cancer. Libby's blogs on "Caring Bridge.org," inspired us all while keeping us up to the minute on her progress. Never one to shy away from reality or sugar coat what was happening, Libby remained grateful for the time she had to raise her boys and make life an adventure no matter what the length of that life would be. She considered herself blessed and as she said in her last blog dated July 10th, "...it's been a good life and that in itself is a miracle." Libby was born in Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, the fifth child of John and Jane McGrory. She lived in Okinawa, Michigan, and Nebraska, moving to Bozeman, Montana in 1978. She graduated from Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah. She attended the Academy of Cosmetology in Bozeman and became a licensed cosmetologist, moving to Spokane in 1987, where she spent the majority of her career at DiBiasi's. She met her future husband, Kevin Hodges, at her first salon, Chee Chee's Artistry in Hair. Libby and Kevin married in 1991 and recently celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary. Their family was completed by the arrival of Ryan and Owen. Libby is survived by her husband Kevin; sons Ryan and Owen of Spokane; mother Jane McGrory of Bozeman, Montana; siblings Richard McGrory (Bobbi) of Hanford, California, Laurie Bayne (Todd) of Phoenix, Arizona, Lisa McGrory of Bozeman, Montana, and Ramsey McGrory (Courtney) of Pelham, New York; father-in-law John Hodges of Spokane; brothers-in-law John Hodges Jr. (John Mosher) of Seattle, Washington, Jim Hodges of New York City, New York, Jeff Hodges (Suzanne) of Spokane; and sisters-in-law Mary Hodges (Mark Fanslow) of Spokane, and Ann McVicker (John) of Spokane, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Libby was preceded in death by her father John McGrory, her brother Ryan McGrory, and her mother-in-law Ramona Hodges. A rosary will be held at Hennessy Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division on July 25, 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on July 26, 1 p.m., at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. Burial to follow at Riverside Memorial Cemetery with a reception after.
