GIFFORD, Mary Ann "Our Guardian Angel" has left us to soon, Mary Ann "Nanny" Gifford, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, left this world on January 24, 2014 in Spokane, WA. Mary Ann was born on September 20, 1937 in Knoxville, TN the daughter of Arlie Hurstell and Rose Violet (Wilson) Perryman. Her early years were spent in Tennessee migrating with her family to the Chewelah Valley, where she graduated from Jenkins High School in 1955. She left the area for a short time living in California, but returned to the valley she loved where she has spent the remainder of her life. Mary Ann worked as a nurses' aide at St. Joseph's Hospital, as well as, the K & L Sewing Factory and the Chewelah Casino. She loved her trips to visit her son, Brian, in many different areas of the world, it was the highlight of her life traveling with him. She took her grandchildren on many of her trips as she loved each of them dearly. She always enjoyed watching the horses run with her brother, Arlie, watching the PBR, playing bingo and playing an occasional slot machine. Gardening and flowers were her passion, even during the times when she was very ill, she would always manage to make a pass through the yard to admire the "blooms". Mary Ann made a big impact on anyone that knew her. She always had a kind smile and a welcoming heart. She took in any stray children that may have been brought home to her, never knowing who she might wake-up to on her couch. The tradition was passed on down to her grandchildren as well. She supported her children and grandchildren in everyway, attending rodeos, bowling events, Tae Kwon Do testings, baseball games, baby showers, etc. All you had to do was name the place, she was always ready to go. Mary Ann was preceded in death by a son, Michael Anthony Spradlin; her mother and father, Arlie and Rose Perryman; siblings, Harold Perryman, Arlie Perryman and three sisters and two brothers at a young age.
