Stanley HUGHES Obituary

HUGHES, Stanley Wade, Sr. (Age 70) Stan was born in Dunbar, Pennsylvania, one of nine children to Sessel and Margaret Hughes. He graduated high school and joined the US Air Force in August 1960 until his retirement in Sept. 1980. In April 1981 he was employed by the Department of Defense and worked another 22 years for the U.S. Military. During his active duty years, Stan was stationed in England three times, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as several bases stateside, ending his career in Las Vegas, NV. In June 1960, while stationed at Fairchild AFB, WA he met and married Karen Cornell after a whirlwind three month courtship. They had four sons (Michael, Stanley Jr., Kenneth and Geoffrey Hughes). Karen passed away in February 2005 and Stan relocated to Spokane, WA. He married Laura McCammon in May 2007. Stan spent much of his free time coaching or refereeing the boys' various sports teams. He also enjoyed fishing and camping as well as playing Texas Hold'em as much as three times a week. Stan was a life member of the Washington VFW. Surviving family includes his wife Laura, his four sons, seven grand- children and one great-grandson as well as one brother Sturge Hughes of Dunbar, PA and one sister, Vera DiLoreto of Federal Way, WA. Donations can be made in Stan's memory to the American Cancer Society.

I was stationed with Stan "Huey" Hugehes while at Fairchile. We used to car pool from Spokane to the base in his old Ford Pick Up. I have wonderful memories of Stan and the guys we used to run around with. RIP my friend. RET USAF William R Hunter, Sagle, ID
