News Death Notice

BEARD, Carl E. 95, of Springfield, Ohio passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Green Hills Community of West Liberty. He was born February 21, 1918 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Charles E. and Golda M. (Pendergraff) Beard. Carl was a graduate of Springfield High School and a retired employee of Curtis 1000, Inc., greatly enjoying a 30-year career in salesmanship. Carl was a veteran of WWII and was the first inductee from Springfield under the selective service act, leaving on November 22, 1940 (more than a year before Pearl Harbor). He was an aviation cadet with flight and navigation training in the US Air Corps. He also served with the US Army in the Philippines and was awarded the American Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and two Bronze Stars. He was discharged with honor on December 18, 1945. Carl was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of Crossway Vineyard Church in Urbana. Carl is survived by his wife, Joyce Kauffman-Beard of Bellefontaine; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Kenneth King of Urbana; daughter-in-law, Sandie Beard of Tipp City; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; treasured nieces, nephews, and friends. Carl is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geneva M. Beard; son, Steven R. Beard; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Ruth Beard; a brother, Chester, and a sister, Thelma. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS LIFE CELEBRATION CENTER. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum. Friends may call on Sunday, June 30 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the or Green Hills Retirement Community in Carl's memory.
