News Death Notice

HANSEN, George J. Died on Jan 24th 2014... He had been a resident of Emeritus assisted living home in Enon, Ohio since 2010. Mr. Hansen was born in Zanesville, Ohio on Aug 18, 1919 to the late John and Helen Hansen. He graduated from Roseville High School, and Meredith Business College, Zanesville, Ohio and attended University of Dayton, majoring in Accounting and Economics. He served in the US Army Air Corps from Dec 1941 to Nov 1945 and saw service in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was decorated with the Bronze Star for the Rhineland Campaign during the Battle of the Bulge in WW II. He married Yvonne Marie Van Muylder of Brussels, Belgium on Sep 19, 1945 and remained in Europe as a War Department Civilian employee until April 1946, at which time he returned to his former employment with Air Technical Service Command, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. During his 34 years of government service, he served as Chief, Budget and Accounting Division, 2750th Air Base Wing, and as a Budget Analyst and Logistics Program Specialist at HQ, Air Force Logistics Command. Upon his retirement from government service in 1976, he was employed by Security National Bank in Springfield, from which he retired in 1986. Mr. Hansen and his wife Yvonne owned and operated Hansen's Christmas Tree Farm in Medway and were active in the Ohio Christmas Tree Association. Mr. Hansen was a member of Mary Help of Christians Church in Fairborn, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles and AMVETS. He was preceded in death by Yvonne, his wife of 66 years, his parents and brothers Edward and Paul. He is survived by his sisters Mary Ann Dickey of San Antonio and Julia DeDonatis of Coral Gables, FL. He leaves four sons, John, Joseph, George Jr. and Michael, and three daughters, Julia Johnson, Diana Yohanna Storm and Patricia Gillette. He also leaves eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Visitation is Sunday 2pm to 4pm at Adkins Funeral Home in Enon, Oh. Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at Mary Help of Christians Church in Fairborn, Oh. On Monday 1/27 at 10am. Luncheon reception to follow the mass. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to family and youth initiatives at www.familyandyouthinititives.org.
