Family-Placed Obituary


COLLIER, Jason Jeffrey 28, of Cumming, Georgia died unexpectedly October 15, 2005, in Cumming, Georgia. He was born September 8, 1977, in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Jeffrey R. and Joyce A. Collier and was a 1996 graduate of Catholic Central High School and a member of the 1996 State Championship team. He also was the 1996 Mr. Basketball for the State of Ohio, a McDonald All-American, and a Naismith Award Winner as one of the top six basketball players in the nation in 1996. Jason attended Indiana University and was a business management graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), where at both schools he played basketball. He played three years with the Houston Rockets NBA team and was presently in his third year with the Atlanta Hawks. In his younger years, Jason was also a nationally ranked swimmer and holds several records yet today. Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Jared, at home; his sister, Julie, and brother-in-law, Dipesh Rao; his wife, Kathryn (Katie Weseman) Collier and daughter, Elezan (Ella) Collier; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Helen (Samosky) Leugers, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Fenton and Irene (Brooks) Collier. Funeral arrangements are being handled by McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia. Visitation hours will be on Tuesday, October 18, from 6- 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, Georgia, on Wednesday, October 19, at 11a.m. There will be a Celebration of Jason's Life at Catholic Central High School's gym on Sunday, October 30, from 2- 5 p.m. to which family, friends, and the public are invited to share the many memories of Jason's life.
