News Death Notice

ELSNAU, John W. 85, of Springfield, passed forward on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. He was born August 4, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Walter G. and Dorothy (Danforth) Elsnau. Like his father, John graduated from the University of Michigan and remained an avid Wolverine fan for all of his life. After graduation, he served in the US Army Signal Corps. He began his career as an engineer, progressed into management, and most recently conducted research for a financial services company. John was a committed Christian; he was very active in his churches and communities. He was an accomplished gardener, raising more than 30 different varieties of heirloom tomatoes. John enjoyed his men's Bible study and his book group. He was a longtime resident of Amherst, New York. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Peggie (Sigler) Elsnau; four children, James W., John G., Kathryn H. and W. Paul (Toni) Elsnau; one brother, Walter H. (Anita) Elsnau; two sisters-in-law, Willa Sigler and Phyllis (Richard) Pomeroy; two grandchildren, Hannah and John Walter Elsnau and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, John Michael Elsnau. A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 St. Paris Pike, Springfield, OH 45504 with Pastor Daniel M. Powell and Pastor Beverly C. DeBord officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date by the family in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Williamsville, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or Clark County Literacy Coalition, 137 E. High St. Springfield, OH 45502.
