News Death Notice

GRAY, Luther D. 86, of South Charleston, died Wednesday morning, June 27, 2012 in his home. He was born in Wellston, Ohio on July 31, 1925, the son of the late William E. and Olive (Welch) Gray. Luther served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired from Navistar following 30 years of service. Luther was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, a life member of V.F.W. Post 1031, and coached Little League baseball for 35 years. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gwen M. (Kemp) Gray; six children, Mary Rose Gray of Orlando, Florida, Pat (Jackie) Gray of Urbana, Steve Gray (Sue Avery) of Springfield, Tim (Cheryl) Gray of Wapakoneta, Tom (Claudia) Gray of Chicago, and Diane (Patrick) Zinkhon of Powell, Ohio; a sister, Shirley (Richard) Landess of Springfield; 20 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy McCollum and June Best and a brother, Brayton Gray. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Luther's funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with Chaplain Dale Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.
